 | Why couldnt protoplanets consist of similar materials before they impact? They are in shared orbit around the sun right? Also a hyper velocity impact deep into the earth could prduce the same results as both theories correct. It wouldnt have to be 2 planet size objects colliding.  | All of these ideas, other than the giant impact one, make very little sense. There's almost no way there was enough radioactive material concentrated enough to set off an eruption of a whole Moon's mass of material into orbit. The amount of force required is ridiculous. Then the synestia idea doesn't explain why a cloud of rock would coalesce into two bodies instead of one, and also fails to explain the difference in the Moon's orbital inclination compared to Earth's rotational axis. Even the name synestia sounds lame. The only issues we have with the giant impact idea come from our limited knowledge and assumptions of how proto Earth and Theia formed, collided, and collected back together into the two worlds we see today. These have shorter half-lives, but are more fissionable. For example, this explains how the African reactor occurred naturally, a couple billion years ago, but has not happened since.  | It is any amazing video, but the non-Thea hypotheses made me wonder why they would consider these possibilities are greater than the likelihood that Thea was made up of much the same material as the Earth, forming in the same general location as the Earth's orbit, close enough that it smacked into the Earth. Maybe an astro-geologist (if that is a real real and the proper designation of study) could explain to me if that is less probable and why. Otherwise, very interesting presentation. The idea of the synestia is fascinating. At 10:22 she says synestias have been formed throughout the universe, but when I went looking for examples of synestia that have been discovered I didn't find any. The video goes onto say "The synestia theory is still unproven. but it brings up closer to the moons origin".  | The first theory has one big flaw, if the other plant was heading directly towards earth and collided, HOW would what's left of the debris suddenly change trajectory from a straight line to becoming an ORBIT around the earth? I don't see how that would be possible since the other planet would have hit and remains kept going in the same basic direction it was before collision, not suddenly curve off left or right and start circling. | The Moons movements actually contradicts the laws of science, every moon rotates in a certain particular pattern but the Earth's moon and 2 other planets moving at a very peculiar Pattern to that never allows the earth to see one side of the moon ( the dark side of the moon) always showing only one side, which is very odd indeed going against every rule of thumb.
